On January 15th, 2020, Laurentian residence released an email to students on campus that “A student living in residence has tested positive for COVID-19.”
Residence has confirmed that Public Health Sudbury and Districts have completed contract tracing. The individual and “their close contacts are currently self-isolating.”
Residence has released updated rules since the announcement.
Students are to stay in their apartment “family” and not to mingle with residences in other rooms. Students are not supposed to leave residence unless deemed essential.
They also continue to emphasize the importance of wearing a mask indoors when not in your apartment and to wear a mask outdoors if you cannot maintain 6 feet distance.
An anonymous student that has been in confirmed contact with the positive case says “it sucks”.
“The isolation in a residence is not ideal because you cant have food delivered and the room is quite small,” they continued.
Despite this, the Rapid COVID-19 Antigen testing is still available in residence.
Residence said, “While our community has been fortunate to have no cases up until this point, this is a difficult time for everyone involved.”
“We are a strong community, and though we can’t physically be in the same space, we can continue to support each other.”
Residence encourages students to take time to check-in and stay in contact with friends as “a sense of togetherness can help us all get through this.”
