The last weekend of November did not bring success for the Laurentian men’s basketball team.
On Friday, Nov. 28, the Voyageurs played at home against the Guelph Gryphons, and in a tightly contested yet ultimately unsuccessful performance (despite a very early lead), the team fell to scores of 85-69.
The top Laurentian players for this game were Sam Hirst with 18 points, Ryan Bennett with 17 points.
Top scores by Guelph were dished out by teammates Jack Beatty, Trevor Thompson and Michel Clark.
In the match on Saturday, Nov. 29 versus the Lakehead Thunderwolves, the Thunderwolves narrowly beat the Voyageurs 62-52.
Top scorers for Laurentian were again Sam Hirst with 16 points and Ryan Bennett with 16 points, as well as Tychon Carter-Newman with 7 points. Although the Voyageurs showed signs of improvement from the previous game, it just wasn’t enough to pull away with a win to close of the weekend.
Sealing the win for Lakehead, top scorers were, Bacarius Dinkins with 20 points, Dwayne Harvey with 15 points and Anthony Mcintosh with 11 points.
Laurentian’s basketball head coach Shawn Swords said of the weekend’s performances: “those were two games that we could have won. We lacked a lot of focus, a lot of concentration, and that’s on me.”
The Voyageurs will return to action after the holidays to play away games against York and Queens on Jan. 9 and 10.
