The Voyageur’s men’s soccer team found themselves with two wins after completing games on Sept. 21 and 22 on the home field.
On Sept. 21, the team secured their very first win of the season, ending the game 2-1 for the Voyageurs.
Although OUIT played competitively, the Voyageurs kept the lead with goals scored by Cameron Brooks, number 15 and Team Captain, and Liam Ezzard, number 13, in the first half.
UOIT’ Ridgeback’s lone goal was scored by Andrew Serediuk, number 6, off a rebound, but it was to no avail as Laurentian would grab the three points.
Sunday’s game was also a smash success, but it wasn’t without struggle. The matchup vs Trent University Excalibur was highly physical and Trent made it a technical match-up.
On the defence side of things, LU goal tender Duncan Jobson made several great saves, and on the offense side of things, number 17 Matthew Wilkes scored the Voyageurs game winning goal, which came after a first half that saw Wilkes get a little heated.
The closest Trent came to tying up the game was an after whistle shot on net that was ruled no goal.
The Voyageurs hope to rise further up the ranks, and head coach Carlo Castrechino had this to say about this weekend’s performance, “guys competed very hard, tough games this weekend. Our backs were against the wall, at this point every game is like a playoff match.”
