Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for the Sudbury Region for Saturday, Mar. 5.

A cold front will move across Northeastern Ontario this evening bringing some snow or a wet snow-rain mix with it before stalling just to the south over Central Lake Huron and Georgian Bay overnight.

A low pressure area from Texas may turn into a winter storm as it moves up along the line of the front on Saturday.

Significant amounts of snow of 15 cm or more are possible with this storm. In addition strong northerly winds ushering in much colder air will also result in very low visibility in blowing snow in exposed areas.

There is also a risk of freezing rain near Lake Huron and Georgian Bay, which will be closest to the track of the storm centre.

Travelling conditions may become quite hazardous as a result on Saturday. People should be prepared to adjust travel plans as required.

Environment Canada is closely monitoring this situation and will issue warnings as necessary later today or tonight.
