Pipe freeze likely cause of Fraser flooding, repair crew says

By Ophelia O’Donnell

Laurentian University says a water main break around 8:30 a.m. has flooded Fraser Hall, forcing classes to be cancelled and causing food services at Starbucks, Alumni Hall and Tim Hortons to be suspended.

Parking Lot 1 and Lot A are also currently unavailable because of the break, with students being asked by the university to use Lot 11, instead.

The J.N. Desmarais library is also without water or washroom facilities, the library tweeted this morning.

First General Services, a local contractor, told Lambda that the cause of the flood is “likely a pipe freeze.”

First General said its main concern was drying and sanitizing flooded areas, and could not give an estimate as the cost of damages.

The University said it will be releasing a statement later today.

The Print Hub and Doran Planetarium remain open.
