School of Architecture’s phase two building underway downtown

By Kayla Perry, Editor-in-Chief

Phase two of Laurentian’s School of Architecture master-plan began over the summer: the second phase includes further renovation to the school’s main building, as well as the construction of a neighbouring second two-storey structure.

The finished product will be a 54,000 square feet building, located in the heart of downtown Sudbury. The structure is also said to be unique, as it is built with cross-laminated timber (CLT).

“The assembly of the 9-metre tall CLT panels creates an impressive profile for Laurentian Architecture,” said Dr. Terrance Galvin.

Galvin, the Founding Director of the School of Architecture, also stated that the CLT structure is “innovative, beautiful, and sustainable, and reflects the School’s focus on northern design.”
