Monday night, the voters of the City of Greater Sudbury opted for a change and elected Marianne Matichuk the new mayor of Sudbury. Matichuk won the election with 46.1% of the vote, a near 10-point lead over incumbent mayor John Rodriguez. Ted Callaghan came in a distant third.

The results must now be certified by the Returning Officer before they can be deemed official.

Matichuk becomes the second female mayor in Sudbury’s history, and the first elected female mayor. Grace Hartman previously held the office from 1966-1967 when she was selected by City Council to replace Max Silverman, who died in office.
